ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES
Via Pozzo del Mare
Via Pozzo del Mare takes its name from a 15th-century term (as attested in the Statutes of Trieste of 1421, which mention ‘puteum maris’). The name is linked to the presence, until the 18th century, of a pre-existing well located on the corner of Via Punta del Forno and the no longer existing Piazzetta Pozzo del Mare.
The name of the street took inspiration from the quality of the water extracted from this well, which was lightly salty due to its proximity to the sea.
